about

AMC started rhyming in 1980, mimicking the party rap styles of the day, but around 1986 he switched to a more aggressive battle rap style. Around that time, he had recently moved from Fort Riley, KS, leaving behind his group there, the 3D Crew, who had just started booming active, but he soon moved to North Chicago, IL.

The plan was always to find more like-minded people and form a new group, but in the meantime, he worked on two solo album, “Rough Rhyme Ruler” (’86) and “Intellectually Speaking In A B-Boy’s Way” (’87), but due to a lack of equipment and/or funds for studio time, those albums never got recorded, and by the time late ’87 hit, he finally formed his new group, Wildstyle, so those solo albums were put to the aside and lost to time. Wildstyle went on to be a notable force on the Lake County, IL Hip Hop scene from ’88-’90.

Although those albums were never recorded, the rhyme, as well some album planning notes, were never fully lost, thanks to rhyme books and bedroom tape recordings, so the album was able to be recreated in 2022/23 largely as it was intended, capturing the vibe of ’87 in the production, lyrics, and vocal approach.
